Riyadh airport attack: Several injured, flights suspended, travel warnings issued
Riyadh airport suspends operations after attack leaves several injured; flights disrupted, travel warnings issued. Passengers advised to check flight status.
Saudi Arabia temporarily suspended operations at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Saturday, October 10, after an attack left several people injured, according to the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA). Authorities said the number of injuries was being assessed as they coordinated with relevant agencies to check airport facilities and assess damage.
GACA stated that operations were paused while the security review was conducted and flights were disrupted as the airport’s facilities were inspected. The ministry of foreign affairs urged Saudi citizens stranded abroad to contact their embassy for assistance as flight cancellations and delays continued to impact travel plans.
Several airlines reported cancellations on routes to and from Riyadh, with disruptions affecting travelers between the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Abu Dhabi, Dubai and other Gulf destinations saw affected services, and some flights to other Saudi cities were also impacted as the situation evolved.
Airlines issued specific cancellation notices and advised passengers to verify flight status directly with their carriers before traveling to the airport. Some operators offered refunds or waivers for rescheduling in light of the suspension and ongoing security checks.
International travel advisories followed the incident, with several countries advising citizens to avoid the airport and monitor updates from airlines and local authorities. Governments reminded travelers to consult official guidance and confirm bookings before heading to the airport as flight status remained uncertain.
