Death toll from Saturday’s missile strike on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport rises to at least two, including an Egyptian flight attendant
The death toll from Saturday’s attack on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport rose to 12, with 309 people wounded, according to an updated statement from Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation.
The strike targeted a passenger terminal and involved a missile attack, with authorities confirming the blast and subsequent injuries, as well as ongoing efforts to assess material damage at the airport.
Initial reports noted that among the dead were four Saudi citizens and eight foreign nationals living in the kingdom, including individuals from the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine, Sudan, and two Bangladeshi nationals, with several victims described as foreigners awaiting or returning travel.
Flight operations at the airport were temporarily suspended after the strike, and inbound flights were diverted while hospitals treated the injured and airlifted some patients to medical facilities.
This attack marked the third strike on King Khalid International Airport within a week, amid a broader conflict in the region, with the Houthis claiming responsibility for several attacks and continuing warnings to international airlines to avoid Saudi airspace.
Airline operators announced cancellations or service suspensions to and from Riyadh in response to the security situation, and travelers were advised to check with their airlines for status before heading to the airport.
