Several injured as third Saudi airport attack prompts evacuations
More than a dozen ambulances were observed converging on Riyadh’s international airport, with travellers being evacuated from parts of the facility after a blast was heard, according to an eyewitness and people briefed on the matter.
The incident occurred amid a broader pattern of Houthi-led attacks on the kingdom, with the airport having been attacked twice earlier in the week, resulting in casualties and damage, and contributing to flight disruptions.
Flight-tracking data indicated disruptions at Riyadh, as flights to the city were diverted or cancelled, and at one point a helicopter was shown hovering over the airport.
Airlines including Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways reported cancellations of multiple flights to Riyadh, with some cancellations extending into Monday, while the airport urged passengers to verify status with their airlines before heading to the facility.
Organisers of major energy and investment conferences scheduled in Riyadh said the events would proceed as planned, aiming to reassure attendees of security in light of the ongoing attacks and airspace warnings declared by the Houthis.
