The Royal Canadian Air Force Snowbirds made their final U.S. appearance with the CT-114 Tutor jets at the Capital Airshow in Sacramento, California on the weekend and got a little help from their friends. The USAF Thunderbirds joined the Canadian team for a final salute with a massive smoke-on formation that ended with the signature Maple Split by the Snowbirds. After this season he team will go on hiatus until it’s equipped with the CT-157 Siskin, a new turboprop aircraft based on the Pilatus PC-21.

The Snowbirds will perform one last full show with the Tutors at an invitation-only event at their home base of CFB Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on Oct. 16. The show is an annual homecoming tradition marking the end of the season and is reserved for base personnel and invited guests. It will, however, be livestreamed. The final public appearance of the team in the Tutors will be at the Canadian equivalent of the Super Bowl to kick off the Grey Cup game in Winnipeg in November. The team is expected to be back together as early as 2030.
