Houthi rebels warned the world Sunday that it considers all airports in Saudi Arabia fair game in its escalating fight with the kingdom. The para-military force warned “all airlines, experts, employees, workers and travelers against using Saudi airports and airspace, as they are vulnerable to attack and have become a theater of operations for our forces.” The warning came after Riyahd’s King Khalid Airport was attacked on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, a missile killed 13 and injured more than 300 when it hit a passenger terminal. The same terminal was hit by a “projectile” and there were injuries but the number has not been released. The airport remained closed on Sunday. Riyadh is hosting a major international energy conference this week.
Most international carriers are apparently heeding the warning from the Houthis as Saudi Arabia runs low on missile defense arms. It has asked the U.S. for direct intervention and President Donald Trump said he is considering the request. Various aircraft tracking sites are reporting a surge in military traffic to the area. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia is asking other countries to send it missiles and other supplies so it can continue fighting the Houthis. The airport in the rebel-held Yemeni capital of Sanaa was struck and the Saudis are presumed to have launched the attack.
