Chennai-bound IndiGo flight diverted to Hyderabad after fire breaks out due to malfunctioning power bank
A Chennai-bound IndiGo flight was diverted to Hyderabad after smoke was detected from a passenger’s personal electronic device, according to IndiGo and a social media video.
The incident occurred on October 11, 2026, with the aircraft diverting to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad, where it landed safely.
IndiGo stated that the smoke originated from a customer’s personal electronic device and that the crew managed the situation, leading to the diversion in line with established protocols. The airline said an alternate aircraft was arranged to continue the journey to Chennai and that passengers were offered refreshments and updates.
A video recorded by a passenger on a mobile phone surfaced on X showing passengers attempting to smother flames with bags, though Livemint noted it could not independently verify the video’s authenticity.
IndiGo’s statement reiterated that safety was the top priority and that staff worked to minimize inconvenience, with ongoing efforts to keep passengers informed about the travel arrangements.
