Belmont residents are expressing concerns about potential changes to aircraft patterns at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) once a fourth runway opens in 2027. City leaders say the new runway could shift flight paths and possibly impact noise levels in Belmont.

The CLT Noise Advisory Forum will host public meetings at the airport’s CLT Center to discuss potential noise and air quality effects. The first session is scheduled for October 14, with additional details provided by the CLT Center’s Noise Office.

Belmont Mayor Joe Jordan plans to attend the first public forum to raise concerns about how the fourth runway might affect his community. He notes there is a high probability of traffic pattern shifts, though specifics are not yet known.

City officials emphasize Belmont’s desire to balance economic benefits from the airport with quality-of-life factors, including a two-mile noise-buffer policy that could be affected by changes in flight patterns. They warn that without the buffer, noise could be heard farther inland.

The draft environmental review for the fourth runway is planned for release in November to examine potential noise and air-quality impacts. Public meetings are scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the CLT Center, located at 5601 Wilkinson Blvd. in Charlotte.
