Plane diverted after passenger power bank catches fire, reports say
A power bank that caught fire during a flight led to an emergency landing with 180 passengers onboard.
A power bank ignited onboard an IndiGo aircraft, prompting an emergency diversion. The incident involved IndiGo flight 6E 6115, which was en route from Delhi to Chennai when the smoke was detected in a passenger’s electronic device.
Officials confirmed the fire occurred roughly two and a half hours after takeoff, in an overhead bin. The crew acted promptly, and the situation was brought under control with standard safety procedures observed.
The flight was diverted to a different airport for safety reasons. Reports indicate the aircraft descended significantly during the incident, and the diversion led to a landing at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.
