A False Hijack Alarm Prompts Fighter Jet Escort & Airport Closure In Germany
An emergency situation at Nuremberg Airport (NUE) in Germany led to a temporary halt in operations on Tuesday, authorities reported. The event involved a Corendon Airlines Boeing 737-800 that was en route from Corfu’s Ioannis Kapodistrias International Airport (CFU) to Bavaria.
According to air traffic control, the crew of the Corendon Airlines aircraft changed their squawk code to 7500, which indicates hijacking or unlawful interference. This code change triggered standard emergency procedures and prompted responses from authorities.
Local police conducted a follow-up assessment and have since determined that no threat remains. The investigation has ruled out any ongoing danger related to the incident.
As a result, Nuremberg Airport operations were suspended briefly while responders assessed the situation, and air traffic control operations resumed once the area was cleared. No further details about injuries, aircraft damage, or outcomes have been provided.
