With the goal of addressing the flight training market in the U.S., Tecnam has announced that it will pursue FAA Part 23 certification for its current light sport model, the P2008. The new designation, P2008JC NG, indicates the path intended for the Italian manufacturer, which already holds CS Part 23 certification on the model

The resulting trainer will be powered by the fuel-injected 100 hp Rotax 912 iS, which can be operated under both day and night VFR. The original P2008 light sport version comes with a choice of the Rotax 912 iS, the 912 ULS, or the Rotax 914 Turbo. With a maximum gross weight of 1,499 pounds, that leaves 529 pounds of useful load.

Up front, the P2008JC NG features the two-screen Garmin G3X avionics installation, with ADS-B In/Out for traffic information. The two-seater reports a takeoff distance of 1,280 feet and a landing distance of 1,257 feet, both over a 50-ft obstacle, and a range of 800 nm.

Tecnam also announced this week the ascension of former managing director Giovanni Pascale Langer to the role of CEO. His father, Paolo Pascale Langer, will transition to president and work with Giovanni and Tecnam’s leadership team to continue the legacy. “In the cockpit, when handing over the controls, we say ‘You have control.’ Today I say it to Giovanni, with confidence and pride,” Paolo Pascale Langer said in a release. “He learned this trade from the ground up and over the years has become a recognized leader by our customers, our partners, and our people, in Italy and around the world. He has the competence, the vision, and the character to keep Tecnam flying with the ambition and determination to go ever further. I will remain by his side.”

Giovanni began his work at Tecnam on the production line as an apprentice assembler, working his way up to the chain of command through most of the company’s departments. AvBrief interviewed Giovanni about the company’s vision in the wake of the adoption of MOSAIC back in February.
