Wisconsin plane crash kills 5 adults, child as authorities probe final communications with air traffic control
A Piper PA-46 crashed in a wooded area in Sauk County, Wisconsin Tuesday night, killing all six people aboard including a child. The FAA is investigating.
A small plane carrying five adults and a child was in contact with air traffic control before crashing into a wooded area in Wisconsin, authorities said.
The aircraft, a Piper PA-46, was on a return flight from Kenosha to Menomonie when it went down in the Town of Dellona in Sauk County, according to the Sauk County Sheriff's Office.
Rescue crews were dispatched after multiple reports of a downed aircraft around 9:31 p.m. Tuesday, and responders found the wreckage in a densely wooded area west of Herwig Road.
Investigators are focusing on what communications occurred between the aircraft and a nearby air traffic control tower before the crash and whether weather conditions may have played a role, the sheriff said.
The FAA and NTSB have been notified and will lead the investigation into the cause of the crash. The ownership of the aircraft has not been confirmed by authorities. No ground injuries were reported, and the crash site remained secured as the investigation continued.
