AOPA to Host Career Expo in November

Developing the skills for a fruitful career in aviation starts early—and it goes beyond just getting young people interested in learning to fly, because piloting an airplane or helicopter is only one profession available within the broad scope of the aerospace industry. Pilot groups like the Ninety-Nines, Experimental Aircraft Association, and Women in Aviation International have long included youth in their outreach, in various ways.

In the past 20 years the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association has expanded the remit of its own youth programs from simply growing the pilot population to reaching into K-12 schools with a STEM-focused curriculum and other tools within AOPA’s You Can Fly mission.

With workforce development a high priority across the aviation industry, it makes sense. And this year, AOPA is trying a new event to pull in a broader audience, the AOPA Aviation Career Expo. It’s scheduled to take place from November 13-14, in Phoenix, Arizona, at the Hyatt Regency.

The recruiting and networking conference invites prospective candidates to come together with employers, flight training organizations, and industry leaders for two days of career development programming, social networking opportunities, and exhibits from companies across the spectrum. Session topics include interview preparation, logbook consultation, and airline applications. Need a headshot? A dedicated booth is there to check that box.

Admission to the event is free for students, and AOPA members can receive a complimentary ticket as well. Everyone else can purchase a ticket for $89—which handily includes an AOPA membership if the person elects to take them up on the offer. Attendees are encouraged to bring their questions for the pros along with several copies of their current resume.
