Emergency Training Exercise Underway At Campbell River Airport

The City of Campbell River is conducting a planned emergency training exercise at the Campbell River Airport that runs until 4:30 p.m.

The exercise involves airport personnel, staff from other City departments, emergency responders and representatives from partner agencies, who are practicing a coordinated response to a simulated emergency.

Residents and visitors may see emergency vehicles and personnel and other realistic response activities in and around the airport during the day, though there is no actual emergency and no risk to the public.

Access to exercise areas is restricted to authorized personnel, and the City asks the public and media to avoid those locations, respect posted signage and follow directions from crews on site.

The exercise is required as part of the airport’s Transport Canada certification and is funded through the Union of BC Municipalities, with regular airport operations expected to continue without disruption.
