An Air India flight from Frankfurt to Delhi was diverted to Jaipur after air traffic control received a hijack alert for the aircraft, according to officials cited in the report.
The aircraft, AI 2030, a Boeing 787-9 with 306 people on board, landed safely at Jaipur and was moved to an isolation bay for security checks before being cleared to resume its journey to Delhi.
The flight reportedly squawked transponder code 7500 briefly, the code internationally associated with unlawful interference, before ATC instructed a diversion to Jaipur. The pilots told ATC there was no hijacking.
Air India said the diversion was due to a perceived security concern and that security agencies subsequently checked and cleared the aircraft and crew. The plane then took off from Jaipur at 2:37 pm and landed in Delhi at 3:11 pm.
The DGCA plans to examine the ATC system for a possible technical error, with officials suggesting the incident could involve a transponder code assignment issue. Anonymized sources indicated ATC instructions drove the diversion, and there is no stated confirmation of injuries or aircraft damage.
