San Antonio International Airport is expanding international service with Air Canada increasing its Toronto frequency from three to four flights per week next year, following a May launch that linked San Antonio to Toronto Pearson International Airport.

Passenger results for August show a mixed picture: total traffic dipped 3.7% year over year to just over 831,000 passengers, while domestic passengers fell 4.6% to about 768,000. International passengers rose 7.9% to just over 63,000.

Air Canada’s Toronto service is currently the airport’s only international route outside Mexico, with plans to maintain a seasonal service that ends Oct. 24 before resuming with the expanded schedule in May next year.

Airport officials cite the loss of Spirit Airlines, which had represented 8%–10% of market share, as a contributor to the decline in overall traffic, though they note the international segment is showing strength.

Plans for Terminal C, due to open in 2028, aim to attract more flights and provide international processing facilities, with a larger gate count and added capacity expected to support future service expansion.

In the interim, San Antonio is engaging other low-cost carriers, including Breeze and Frontier, to add flights, and Delta plans to increase its San Antonio–Los Angeles service from two to three daily flights next summer.
