Five Delhi-bound flights were diverted to Jaipur and Noida on Thursday afternoon as rain and thunderstorms affected the capital region.

The affected aircraft included three Air India flights, one Air India Express service and a freighter flight from Macau. Four of the flights were redirected to Jaipur International Airport, while the remaining flight went to Noida International Airport, according to officials.

The diversions occurred as rain swept across parts of Delhi, with the India Meteorological Department issuing a red alert for thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds. The IMD warned of moderate rainfall, with more showers forecast overnight and into Friday morning.

Winds were expected to reach 30-40 km/h, with gusts up to 50 km/h. The red alert was issued for a time window that included the early afternoon, and the weather office anticipated rainfall at a rate of 5-15 mm per hour, potentially continuing into Friday morning.
