Is British Airways' Airbus A380 Retrofit Is Running Behind? Inside The Cabin That Has The Most To Gain
With a massive 84-seat premium economy cabin, British Airways' new World Traveller Plus promises an amazing experience, if not further delayed.
British Airways is planning a major overhaul of its Airbus A380 fleet, aiming to introduce all-new first class suites, expanded business class and premium economy cabins, and an updated economy experience. The project intends to reconfigure the carrier’s 12 superjumbo aircraft into a layout with 421 seats, down from 469, while creating what is described as the world's largest business class cabin and a very large premium economy section.
The overhaul targets a substantial reconfiguration across the A380 fleet, with an emphasis on expanding premium cabins and refreshing the overall passenger experience. The described changes include a significantly enlarged business class and a notably large premium economy cabin, alongside updated first class offerings.
As of October 2026, the program is reported to be behind schedule, with the first aircraft not yet completed. The implication is that the rollout of the new cabin configurations across the fleet has not yet reached the anticipated milestones.
One highlighted element of the plan is an 84-seat premium economy cabin, branded as World Traveller Plus, described as delivering an enhanced experience, even if the project experiences further delays.
