Lisbon airport taxi services have a new fixed-fare scheme aimed at standardising prices for trips within defined zones. The change was introduced to address complaints of overcharging, fare disputes, and meter manipulation described by travelers in recent years.

Under the protocol signed last September, zone-based fixed fares apply during both day and night, including weekends and public holidays. Zone 1 journeys cost 16 euros by day (7:00–22:00) and 20 euros by night (22:00–07:00); Zone 2 journeys cost 19 euros by day and 23 euros by night. Destinations outside the covered zones will continue to use metered pricing.

The fixed fares also remove the previous luggage surcharge of 1.60 euros for larger bags and require that taxi drivers accept electronic payments and vouchers. The new rules are described as a broader effort to improve transparency, service quality, and user protection.

The scheme is being implemented in phases, with full operation anticipated from November and accreditation for additional airport-area taxis beginning the same period. Officials suggest fixed fares could attract more drivers to the airport rank by providing predictable earnings.

Preceding inspections by the Public Security Police reported numerous taxi-related offences at Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado Airport, highlighting issues such as meter tampering and missing or expired driver documentation. The latest protocol aims to address these problems by enforcing standardized pricing and stricter compliance.
