Two people are reported dead after a light plane crashed in the NSW Hunter Region, near Scone. Emergency services were alerted to the incident on Bunnan Road in Scone, close to Scone Aerodrome, around 1:55pm on Friday.

Fire and Rescue NSW said a fire truck remained at the crash site near Scone Racecourse into the afternoon, with reports of fuel spilling from the wreckage. A crime scene was established and will be examined by specialist officers.

Recreational Aviation Australia and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) have been informed. The ATSB indicated the aircraft was a kit-built model registered under the recreational aviation system and noted that it does not investigate recreational aircraft crashes.

Police confirmed that the two men on board died in the crash, but their identities have not yet been released. Investigations and inquiries are continuing, with authorities urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
