Airports in Bengaluru, Canada's Vancouver sign agreement
Bengaluru and Vancouver's airports have signed a sister airport agreement to enhance air service, trade, and technological collaboration, aiming for a direct air link and improved operational efficiency between Canada and India's rapidly growing aviation sectors.
Two major airports in Bengaluru and Vancouver formalized a sister airport agreement aimed at strengthening operational, technological, economic, and air service links between southern India and western Canada.
The MoU was signed at Kempegowda International Airport’s Terminal 2 in Bengaluru, with attendance from officials from both airports, Canada’s Minister of International Trade, and Canadian representatives in Bengaluru.
The collaboration outlines seven areas of cooperation, including the use of technology and innovation to improve operations, and explores Vancouver’s Digital Twin and other pilot projects to be developed or tested jointly by the YVR and Bengaluru airport teams.
A key objective is to facilitate air cargo movement between southern India and Canada to support growing technology sectors, and to establish direct air services between Bengaluru and Vancouver.
Officials said the partnership will also focus on exchanging best practices in smart airport technologies, sustainable operations, and terminal performance management, to boost efficiency, resilience, and passenger experience.
Two-way Canada-India trade was valued at more than USD 10.9 billion in 2025, with the agreement seen as a step toward expanding trade corridors and potential direct services linking Bengaluru with Vancouver.
