Edmonton International Airport (YEG) and Terracap Management have initiated construction of a 50,000-square-foot airside cargo facility on site at YEG, aimed at expanding the airport’s cargo handling capacity and supporting its logistics ecosystem.

The new facility will be located directly alongside Apron VIII, designed to streamline the movement of cargo between freighter aircraft and the warehouse and to handle time-sensitive shipments such as e-commerce, perishables, pharmaceuticals and aviation parts.

Terracap serves as developer, owner and manager for the project, which represents private-sector investment following public funding support. The Government of Canada has committed $118 million through the National Trade Corridors Fund to YEG’s International Cargo Hub and related infrastructure.

Terracap currently operates about 100,000 square feet of airside cargo space at YEG, leased to major cargo operators including Air Canada, Cargojet, DHL and Purolator, and this new building is described as complementing the broader development and growth of Edmonton’s cargo and logistics hub.

Statements from Myron Keehn, president and CEO of Edmonton Airports, emphasize the collaboration between public investment and private investment, highlighting the facility’s role in adding airside cargo capacity and strengthening Edmonton’s logistics ecosystem.
