Yemen’s internationally recognised government on Friday accused the Houthi militia of targeting Aden International Airport with two missiles. The claim was reported by Information Minister Moammar Al-Eryani.
According to Al-Eryani, the missiles landed near a Yemenia Airlines aircraft that was preparing for takeoff from Aden International Airport to Cairo International Airport, flight IY 612. The missiles reportedly landed about 500 metres from the aircraft and around 100 metres from the centre of the runway.
Al-Eryani described the incident as a direct threat to aviation safety and a violation of international law and norms. He said the attack could have caused a major humanitarian catastrophe and emphasized its impact on civilian aviation and Yemenis relying on Aden as a gateway for travel and essential services.
The statement highlighted Aden International Airport as a vital facility for medical travel, education, and employment for Yemenis. Al-Eryani said the government would continue to protect its people and facilities and to eliminate the Houthi threat, with backing from the Coalition to Support Legitimacy led by Saudi Arabia.
In parallel developments, regional security updates included Saudi Civil Defence lifting an early warning for Jazan, and U.S. security advisories warning of potential airport disruptions in Saudi Arabia amid broader tensions. No injuries, aircraft details, dates beyond those stated, or outcomes beyond the reported proximity were provided in the material.
