Trump Backs Israeli Help for Saudi Arabia as Yemen Alleges Missile Attack on Aden Airport
US President says Saudi-Israel normalisation could be back on the table as Yemenâs government reports missiles landing near a passenger aircraft and regional hostilities disrupt air travel
US President Donald Trump urged Saudi Arabia to accept Israel’s offer of help against the Houthis, suggesting it could influence regional dynamics and potentially momentum for broader normalization with Israel. He spoke to reporters at the White House before a rally in Georgia.
Yemen’s internationally recognised government said two missiles landed near Aden International Airport as a Yemenia Airlines flight prepared to depart for Cairo. The missiles reportedly struck about 500 metres from the aircraft and roughly 100 metres from the runway center, according to the Information Minister.
The missiles attack was described as a direct threat to passengers, flight crews and civilian aviation, with Aden airport described as a vital gateway for Yemenis seeking medical care, education, employment and family contact. The government, backed by a Saudi-led coalition, pledged to continue protecting civilian facilities.
The Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted and destroyed several missiles and drones, including a ballistic missile toward Yanbu, two cruise missiles over the Red Sea, and three drones over Saudi Arabia. Alerts were issued for Khamis Mushait and Yanbu, while an early warning for Jazan province was later lifted.
The US Embassy in Saudi Arabia warned of potential attacks on airports and travel disruptions, noting extended suspension of operations at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport through October 17, with Jeddah and Dammam remaining operational but experiencing delays and cancellations. Travelers were advised to verify flight status with airlines and airports.
