UK updates Saudi Arabia travel warning, flags attack risks to airports and energy sites
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has advised British nationals that travel insurance could be invalidated if they travel against official guidance for Saudi Arabia, given ongoing security concerns and the risk of further attacks across the Kingdom.
The FCDO cautions against all travel within 10km of the Yemen border and all but essential travel to the rest of Saudi Arabia, citing threats to airports, energy infrastructure and other critical sites from ongoing attacks.
Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport is highlighted in the advisory following an incident on October 10, 2026, with travelers urged to heed Saudi authorities’ instructions and avoid the airport until it is deemed secure.
Since July 13, Yemen’s Houthi movement has launched missiles and drones at multiple locations in Saudi Arabia, with potential threats extending to airports, military and defence facilities, ports and energy facilities in several cities and to Red Sea shipping, the FCDO states.
British nationals in Saudi Arabia are advised to consider land travel to a neighboring country to depart, while verifying entry and exit requirements, and to monitor flight status, related travel advisories and insurance coverage in case of disruptions or cancellations.
