A sister airport agreement was signed between Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru and Vancouver International Airport to strengthen operational and technological collaboration and boost cargo movement.

The memorandum of understanding was announced at Bengaluru’s Terminal 2 in the presence of Canada’s Minister of International Trade, Maninder Sidhu, along with senior representatives from both airports.

The pact covers seven areas of cooperation, including smart airport technologies, digital platforms, data-driven decision-making and sustainable operations, with exploration of joint innovation projects such as Vancouver’s Digital Twin technology.

The agreement aims to improve air cargo links between southern India and Canada, focusing on technology sectors and growing industries, as Bengaluru and Vancouver together handled significant cargo and passenger volumes in the previous year.

Officials noted the framework would allow sharing of expertise, development of technology-driven solutions, and identification of opportunities to enhance passenger services and operational performance.

Canada’s High Commissioner to India and the Consul General of Canada in Bengaluru attended the event, and Minister Sidhu suggested the agreement could lay the groundwork for direct air service to foster trade, investment and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
