AMMAN, Jordan — An Etihad Airways Airbus A380 made an unscheduled landing in Amman, Jordan, on Sunday morning before resuming its journey to the United Arab Emirates.
Flight EY22 departed Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) on Saturday, October 17, at 2:10 PM EDT, bound for Zayed International Airport (AUH) in Abu Dhabi. The long-haul route, scheduled for a duration of 13 hours and 35 minutes, was being operated by a double-decker Airbus A380-800 registered as A6-APJ.
Approximately 9 hours and 45 minutes into the flight, while cruising toward the Middle East, the crew diverted the superjumbo aircraft to Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) in the Jordanian capital.
The exact cause for the diversion has not yet been officially disclosed by the airline, though ground operations and local airport authorities handled the arrival without incident.
After spending approximately four hours on the tarmac in Amman for ground procedures, the aircraft took off once again to complete the final leg of its flight. Flight EY22 is currently airborne and on approach to Abu Dhabi, where it is expected to land at Zayed International Airport around 15:10 local time.
