Porter flights prompt London Transit Commission to explore better bus service to YXU
Recent announcements by Porter Airlines about new flights coming to London International Airport (YXU) has prompted the London Transit Commission (LTC) to investigate improving bus service for travellers.
Porter Airlines’ announcements of new flights to London International Airport (YXU) have prompted the London Transit Commission to explore improved bus service for travelers. A motion by LTC Commissioner Coun. Sam Trosow called for a staff review before the next LTC meeting to assess potential direct service from downtown London to the airport.
The discussion centers on Route 36, which currently serves the airport via Fanshawe College, with concerns that airport connections in the city are inadequate. Trosow noted that some travelers face expensive connections or car use, and he described a direct downtown-to-airport link as a potential improvement.
Mayor Josh Morgan followed with a related motion directing the LTC to engage with the airport and city hall about passenger volumes and possible destinations for travelers arriving or departing from YXU. The motion did not rule out including a direct link to the Bus Rapid Transit stop at Fanshawe College.
Trosow expanded the scope of the inquiry by adding consultations with Tourism London and the RBC Place Convention Centre. He suggested that these stakeholders could provide information on likely traveler numbers and might help identify a convenient pickup or drop-off location, potentially near the Convention Centre or another downtown depot.
Porter’s recent plans include winter flights from London to destinations in Florida, Mexico, and Jamaica, announced in August. Earlier this month, the airline revealed domestic routes to Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, and Vancouver slated for spring 2027, underscoring the impetus for discussions on improved airport access.
