A LATAM Airlines Airbus A320 aircraft, registration CC-BFS, had to be evacuated due to an engine fire while on the tarmac at Lima’s Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM), Perú, on October 19, 2026.
The incident started when the aircraft was taxiing towards the runway as it prepared to operate flight LA 2302, bound for the city of Piura (PIU) in northern Perú.
For reasons yet to be established, the CFM56 engine on the port side of the A320 then caught fire, with flames appearing to spread to the adjacent areas of the wing.
Despite the spectacular force of the fire, as reflected in a number of videos which have since emerged on social media, no one was injured in the incident.
All passengers and crew managed to safely evacuate the aircraft as the emergency services rushed to extinguish the fire. They were later reallocated to another flight in order to continue the journey towards their final destination.
A note issued by LATAM Airlines highlights that the emergency protocol was successfully activated and implemented. An investigation has been launched to determine the causes of the incident.
