American Airlines plane lands at Chicago O'Hare International Airport with blown tire; 1 taken to hospital
An American Airlines plane blew a tire when landing at Chicago O'Hare Airport on Tuesday afternoon.
An American Airlines flight from Barcelona to Chicago experienced a tire issue upon landing at Chicago O’Hare International Airport on Tuesday afternoon, according to the FAA.
The FAA indicated that around 2:30 p.m. the crew reported a brake issue, and a subsequent landing resulted in a blown tire. Investigators said pilots suspect the brakes may have locked up, contributing to two tires blowing.
Passengers deplaned via stairs and were bused to the terminal, with responders treating the situation as a precaution. The Chicago Fire Department said one person was taken to a local hospital for evaluation but was reported to be in good condition.
American Airlines stated the flight experienced a tire issue and noted first responders met the aircraft out of an abundance of caution, with customers transported safely by bus to the terminal. The airline added that the aircraft has been taken out of service for maintenance inspection.
The FAA said it will investigate the incident and provided no further details at this time. This event follows a two-week span in August when multiple planes at O’Hare experienced blown tires during taxiing or landing.
