Saudi airport attack kills one, injures eight as flights diverted
An attack on King Fahd International Airport killed one resident and injured eight others. The incident underscores mounting risks from drone attacks targeting Saudi transport and energy infrastructure.
A Saudi resident was killed and eight people were injured in an attack on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam late on Wednesday, according to reports cited by the Press Trust of India.
The Saudi Civil Aviation Authority said the airport suffered some damage and flight disruptions were noted. Global flight-tracking service Flightradar24 reported that flights were diverted from the airport overnight.
King Fahd International Airport is located in Dammam on the Persian Gulf, near Bahrain and Qatar. The area has experienced prior attacks linked to broader Houthi activity against Saudi airports.
The incident occurred after debris from an intercepted drone killed two people and injured two others at an Aramco oil field in southeastern Saudi Arabia, according to PTI. The Energy Ministry identified the deceased as Nepali and Filipino nationals, with the injured being Pakistani and Indian nationals.
The Saudia coalition said it intercepted four drone attacks in the Eastern Region, and authorities noted a fire in a contractor’s vehicle at the Shaybah oil field connected to the debris incident. The Houthis did not comment on the latest airport attack.
