A review of flight paths at the Montreal Metropolitan Airport (MET) is being proposed by the municipality of Sainte-Julie due to resident complaints about increased noise after the new terminal in Saint-Hubert opened a few months ago. The municipality is also considering adjustments to approach procedures as part of the plan.

Residents living under the flight paths report that noise has intensified since Porter Airlines began operations at the terminal. Mayor Mario Lemay acknowledged the change in flight activity and its impact on the community, noting that the number of flights has risen.

Porter Airlines says it is aware of the situation and cites a strong takeoff performance since arriving at the terminal. A senior communications advisor from Porter attributes a phenomenon nicknamed “the whale’s cry” to the landing gear, explaining that gear extension occurs at a distance from the airport and that the airline is exploring options to minimize inconvenience.

Local officials emphasize that the economic aspects are a consideration alongside residents’ concerns. Julie Tiberghien and Richard Lachapelle are among those who have expressed frustration, with reports of planes flying close over outdoor areas.

The YHU terminal, operated by Porter Airlines, says travellers have been satisfied with the travel experience and operations. The terminal president, Charles Roberge, notes recognition from Porter for strong operational performance across stations, but the situation regarding noise remains under review with potential path and procedure adjustments.
