Etihad Dreamliner crosses runway at Boston airport, forcing Delta flight to go around: How the incident unfolded
An Etihad Airways Boeing 787-9 crossed runway 4L at Boston Logan Airport despite acknowledging instructions to hold short, prompting a Delta Connection flight to go around. The regional jet landed safely on its second approach, while the cause of the runway incursion remains unclear.
An Etihad Airways Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner crossed an active runway at Boston Logan International Airport while taxiing after a landing, despite being told to hold short of runway 4L.
The incident involved Etihad flight EY7, arriving from Abu Dhabi, and Delta Connection flight DL5739 operated by Republic Airways using an Embraer E175 from New York LaGuardia.
Air traffic controllers directed the Delta Connection jet to go around after the Etihad aircraft crossed runway 4L, interrupting the approaching landing sequence for DL5739.
DL5739 subsequently landed on runway 4L about 14 minutes after the go-around, while EY7 continued its operations and later departed Boston as EY8.
The event began after EY7 landed around 2:55 pm local time and was instructed to taxi to its gate via taxiways R and N and hold short of 4L, but did not stop before reaching the runway. The incident prompted a formal contact with air traffic control afterward.
