Southwest, American Airlines combine for 1,400+ flights delays across the U.S.
Operations at DFW International Airport, the Fort Worth carrier's central hub, seemed to be less impacted.
American Airlines and Southwest Airlines experienced widespread flight delays across the United States on Friday, with FlightAware reporting totals exceeding 2,000 delays for both carriers combined.
American, which operates as the dominant carrier at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, attributed delays to a vendor-related outage that affected some customers’ ability to book and check in for flights. The airline stated they were working with the technology provider to resolve the issue and advised travelers to arrive at the airport early.
Southwest Airlines indicated its delays were not caused by the same technology outage affecting American. The carrier said its delays were unrelated to American’s outage, and they noted that operations at Dallas/Fort Worth and Love Field appeared less impacted.
At Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, American had delayed more than 200 flights as of 2:05 p.m., according to FlightAware, while Southwest had delayed about 70 flights at that time. A subsequent update at 4:55 p.m. included a comment from Southwest and updated the overall delay figures.
