More than 1,500 flights have been delayed and train services disrupted after Storm Boelo hit the UK with winds of up to 80mph, triggering “danger to life” weath
Storm Boelo has prompted widespread travel disruption across the UK as winds reached up to 80 mph in exposed coastal areas. The disruption includes more than 1,500 flight delays and numerous rail and ferry cancellations, with impacts centered on major airports and transport corridors.
Air travel experienced cancellations and delays at several UK hubs, including London Heathrow, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow, as crews grappled with severe weather. Airlines arranged grounded flights and go-arounds as gusts and storm conditions affected takeoffs and landings.
Weather warnings were issued across the north of England, Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland, with amber wind warnings in effect and yellow rain warnings accompanying Storm Boelo. The Met Office warned of potential injuries from flying debris, power cuts and travel disruption, and noted gusts of 60-70 mph widely, with 80 mph possible in exposed locations.
Across Scotland, environmental authorities issued numerous flood warnings and alerts amid heavy rain accompanying the storm. Flood warnings were issued by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency for various regions as water levels rose in parts of the country.
Maritime and rail services also faced disruption, with ferry services between Ireland and Pembrokeshire halted and more than a dozen rail services canceled on Scotland’s west coast. In Northern Ireland and parts of the north, transport networks were advised to prepare for significant delays and possible closures.
