Leeds Bradford Airport chaos as Storm Boelo forces plane to 'circle three times'
An amber weather warning for wind is in place across parts of the region
Leeds Bradford Airport canceled and disrupted multiple flights as Storm Boelo swept across the region, with an amber wind warning in place for parts of Yorkshire and much of the north of England and Scotland. The forecast indicated strong gusts and unsettled conditions contributing to the disruption.
Arrivals and departures at Leeds Bradford were affected, with several services diverted or delayed. Passengers travelling from Dublin, Palma, Krakow, London Stansted and Malaga faced further delays after disruptions to inbound traffic, while several outbound services were cancelled.
A flight arriving from Malaga just after 8am reportedly passed the airport three times as it attempted to land, reflecting the challenges posed by the weather. Other arrivals, including a flight from Amsterdam due at 9.40am and one from Belfast International at 11.20am, were cancelled.
Airport staff said they were working to manage the disruption in difficult weather and advised passengers to check flight status with their airlines before travelling to the airport. Those already parked with delayed return flights were told no additional parking charges would apply due to the disruption.
Met Office forecasts for the day anticipated heavy showers in the morning, with gusty winds and a continuation of stormy conditions before easing in the evening. The highest gusts in Leeds were expected to reach around 58 mph.
