Houthis target Saudi south as Riyadh airport reopens
Yemen's Houthis launched missile and drone attacks across southern Saudi Arabia as Riyadh's airport reopened following a deadly strike that killed 13 people.
Houthi forces conducted a multi-pronged attack across southern Saudi Arabia, firing ballistic missiles and drones at military and civilian targets, according to the Saudi-led coalition.
The coalition said air defenses intercepted at least 10 ballistic missiles and multiple drones that were aimed at the capital, as well as southern cities including Khamis Mushait, Abha, and Jazan, and it also destroyed a cruise missile aimed at Khamis Mushait.
Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport partially reopened to limited operations the same day after a two-week closure prompted by a deadly Houthi attack earlier this month.
The Houthi military spokesman warned that the airport remains unsafe and a legitimate target, instructing airlines, staff, and travelers to avoid using King Khalid Airport in Riyadh.
This flare-up follows the collapse of a prolonged truce and a rapid Houthi advance along Yemen’s Red Sea coast, events that have disrupted regional security and foreign travel in the area.
