Storm Boelo causes flight diversions and cancellations at Newcastle Airport
Newcastle International Airport has issued a statement as flights are impacted by Storm Boelo
Storm Boelo disrupted flights at Newcastle Airport on Sunday morning as strong winds forced several aircraft to divert.
An EasyJet flight from Palma, due to land at Newcastle at 08:00, made three unsuccessful landing attempts before being diverted to London Gatwick. The aircraft later arrived at Gatwick at 09:15, with passengers awaiting further information and arrangements to return to Newcastle.
Another EasyJet service from Dalaman, scheduled to arrive at Newcastle at 00:40, was diverted to Manchester Airport due to the storm conditions.
A TUI flight from Melbourne International Airport (Florida) reportedly diverted twice—first to Manchester and then to London Gatwick—before landing at the latter.
Flights bound for Amsterdam Schiphol and Belfast International from Newcastle on Sunday were canceled. A Newcastle Airport spokesperson cited high winds from Storm Boelo and advised checking the airport website or contacting airlines for the latest status.
Teesside International Airport arrivals were still listed as on time for Sunday teatime, according to its schedule.
