Flights resume at Riyadh’s international airport after two-week closure, as Houthis warn the facility remains a military target
Flights resumed Sunday at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh after a two-week closure caused by attacks from Yemen’s Houthis. The day’s events also included fresh missiles and drones directed at Saudi Arabia, affecting the capital and the kingdom’s south.
The airport’s website showed several domestic and international flights listed for operations, including arrivals from Dubai, Paris and Cairo. Flight-tracking data indicated only a small number of departures were recorded, with most services still cancelled.
Houthi authorities had previously described the airport as unsafe and a military target, warning airlines, staff and travellers against using it. The group has conducted multiple waves of strikes on Riyadh and other targets in Saudi Arabia.
Explosions were reported in Riyadh early Sunday, with residents receiving alerts about a hostile aerial threat. The Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile toward Riyadh and a cruise missile toward Khamis Mushait, and civil defence reported debris injuries in the south.
