A 38-year-old software engineer from Chennai has been arrested on allegations of sending hoax bomb threat emails to major airports across India, including the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA).
The arrest took place in Chennai and the suspect, Sharath Subramaniam, was brought to Hyderabad by RGIA police under a prisoner transit warrant. Shamshabad ACP V Sreekanth Goud provided the details.
Authorities report that Sharath allegedly sent 45 fake bomb threat emails to RGIA alone and is suspected of targeting around 800 airports nationwide. The threats were sent repeatedly during 2025 and 2026, prompting security alerts at multiple airports.
Police indicate the accused was distressed and acted with personal animosity toward DMK leaders in Tamil Nadu after viewing videos critical of the government. He is said to have admitted to sending the emails to create trouble for the leaders by tying them to the bomb threats, the ACP stated.
Further investigation is ongoing.
