A small-plane crash in Colorado has claimed the lives of Mark Hendrickson, 46, and his two teenage sons, Alan, 15, and Case, 13. The incident occurred in a remote wilderness area within Gunnison County, near Swampy Pass in the West Elk Wilderness of Gunnison National Forest.

The Piper PA-28, piloted by Mark Hendrickson, reportedly departed from Rifle before the crash happened around 8:11 a.m. local time on Saturday. The bodies were found near the crash site in rocky terrain within the forested area.

Officials from the county sheriff’s office, the National Transportation Safety Board, and the U.S. Forest Service are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. No immediate cause is provided in the material.

The Hendrickson family were residents of New Castle, Colorado, located roughly 100 miles north of the national forest area where the crash occurred. They are survived by Mark’s wife and the two boys’ mother, Jenni, and their brother.

Gunnison County Coroner’s Office confirmed all three occupants died at the scene. Jenni Hendrickson shared a social media post expressing heartbreak and requesting privacy as the family processes the tragedy.
