Cyclone Arnab: Multiple flights cancelled at Vijayawada airport; all IndiGo services suspended for Wednes
Cyclone Arnab’s approach towards the Andhra Pradesh coast has disrupted flight operations, with all IndiGo flights from Vijayawada Airport cancelled for Wednesday, October 28.
Cyclone Arnab has prompted widespread disruption to air travel at Vijayawada Airport, with IndiGo cancelling all of its flights for Wednesday, October 28, as the storm closes in on the Andhra Pradesh coast.
In addition to IndiGo, Fly91’s Hyderabad services and an Air India Delhi–Vijayawada flight were also called off for the day, according to official notices. The cancellations follow the cyclone’s forecasted path and expected impact on the region’s aviation operations.
Earlier, on Tuesday, October 27, two IndiGo services linking Vijayawada with Chennai and Bengaluru were cancelled as a precaution amid the cyclone’s approach. The carrier’s Chennai–Vijayawada–Chennai and Bengaluru–Vijayawada–Bengaluru flights were among those affected.
The Indian Meteorological Department predicts Cyclone Arnab will intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm before crossing the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coasts between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam by the forenoon of October 28, bringing strong winds and heavy rainfall to coastal areas. As a result, several Vijayawada-bound or -destined services have been halted for safety reasons.
Other Vijayawada departures and arrivals cancelled due to the cyclone include IndiGo’s Kadapa–Vijayawada–Kadapa, Hyderabad–Vijayawada–Hyderabad, and Air India Express Visakhapatnam–Vijayawada–Visakhapatnam services, all listed as cancelled because of the weather impact.
