Florida mom arrested at airport for leaving 4 kids home alone during work trip to Vegas
The investigation began when a child called 911 reporting a dumbbell fell on her brother's head, deputies say.
A Central Florida mother was arrested after deputies say she left four children home alone for days while she traveled to Las Vegas on a work trip.
Deputies responded to a residence in Osceola County after a child reported an injury when a dumbbell fell onto a 9-year-old boy. Four children, ages 14, 12, 11, and 9, were found unsupervised at the home.
The mother, Irene Miller, told investigators she was in Las Vegas and was due to return on Oct. 23. She had departed on Oct. 18, with a babysitter arranged from Tampa to help prepare the children for school and check on them, though the babysitter was not required to stay overnight.
The injured child was transported to Celebration Hospital and later released. The father was contacted and agreed to take the children to his home. Detectives planned to meet Miller as she disembarked from her flight at Orlando International Airport.
Miller, 50, of Kissimmee, was arrested at the airport and charged with four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm. She was booked at the Orange County jail.
