Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada airports in Andhra Pradesh saw multiple flight cancellations as Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Arnab approached the region, with authorities warning of possible further disruptions.

At Bhogapuram under Visakhapatnam, sixteen flights scheduled for Tuesday were cancelled, affecting services to Delhi, Hyderabad, Kurnool, Tirupati, Bengaluru, Kolkata and Chennai due to heavy rains and gusty winds.

Gannavaram Airport in Vijayawada reported five cancelled flights, with routes including Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kadapa and Bhogapuram affected as a precautionary measure for the cyclone.

Authorities issued an advisory ahead of the cyclone’s expected landfall, noting that heavy rainfall and strong winds could impact flight schedules and travel to and from the airports, and urged passengers to check status and contact airlines for rescheduling or cancellations.

Air India and Air India Express indicated that Arnab’s weather conditions may affect flights to and from Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada, advising passengers to verify status on the airlines’ websites, and to allow extra travel time subject to local conditions.

A review meeting by the Airports Authority of India assessed preparedness in the potential impact zone to address possible disruptions to civil aircraft operations, with participation from multiple airport and air traffic authorities.
