Icelandair and Air China have signed a codeshare agreement to improve connections between Iceland and China.
Icelandair announced the deal on October 27, 2026. Customers of both airlines will be able to book journeys across the two carriers’ networks on a single ticket, with baggage checked through to their final destination.
Founded in 1988, Air China is China’s Beijing-based national flag carrier and operates a fleet of 972 aircraft.
The partnership gives Icelandair, which is based at Keflavík International Airport (KEF), access to Air China’s large network in one of the world’s biggest aviation markets.
“Our partnership with Air China is an important step in strengthening our route network and expanding our network of partner airlines,” said Bogi Nils Bogason, President and CEO of Icelandair.
“China is one of the world’s most important aviation markets. This agreement lets us offer our customers better connections to many destinations there, while giving Air China’s passengers easier access to Iceland.”
Building on Air China’s Beijing–Reykjavik route
The agreement builds on Air China’s scheduled service between Beijing and Reykjavik.
Qu Guangji, President of China National Aviation Holding Corporation and Air China, described it as China’s first and “currently the only scheduled passenger route connecting East Asia and Southeast Asia directly with Iceland.”
“The codeshare cooperation between Air China and Icelandair will provide passengers of both countries with more convenient travel options, further enhancing the connectivity between the two countries’ aviation networks,” he said.
The two airlines have not yet disclosed which routes the codeshare will cover or when it will take effect.
