Missile systems have been deployed on a barge near Mar-a-Lago and at the President Donald J. Trump International Airport to bolster protection against airborne threats, including drones.

Former Navy fighter pilot Matthew “Whiz” Buckley says the equipment likely includes Avenger air defense systems with eight Stinger missiles each, intended to counter drones and aircraft threatening the president.

The Secret Service confirmed that U.S. Northern Command is providing counter-drone equipment at the agency’s request, as part of protective operations in a heightened threat environment. The statement did not specify the exact weapons or confirm a particular threat.

Residents near the deployment, such as Palm Beach resident Raj Patel, expressed concern and unease about the presence of visible military equipment close to home, while others suggest the additional protection offers reassurance.

An FAA VIP movement notification indicates a potential presidential visit to Palm Beach over the weekend, with pilots advised to review flight restrictions for the period from Friday, Oct. 30, through Sunday, Nov. 1.
