Russia-Ukraine war: Drone attacks on Moscow trigger airport restrictions
Russia says it downed dozens of drones near Moscow, prompting airport restrictions, as Zelenskyy highlights differences with Trump over ending the Ukraine war
Russian air defense systems say they destroyed around 30 unmanned aerial vehicles nearing Moscow, according to the city’s mayor. Emergency services are working at sites where fragments from intercepted drones fell.
The authorities report that additional drones heading toward the capital were intercepted after a prior group of drones had been destroyed. Russian air defense systems are described as influencing enemy tactics even before intercepting air targets.
Rosaviatsiya, Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency, imposed flight restrictions at three of the four major airports in the region—Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky—with restrictions lifted at Zhukovsky but temporary limits remaining at the other two facilities.
There were reported explosions in Moscow Oblast near Naro-Fominsk, a town about 50 kilometers southwest of the capital, according to residents cited by local sources.
The report includes a broader geopolitical note about Kyiv and Washington, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commenting on differing approaches to ending the conflict and the influence of Russian leadership and mentality on the war.
