Six people, including the pilot, died when a helicopter crashed near Chayee village in the Jyotirmath area of Chamoli district while en route from Badrinath to Sahastradhara in Dehradun amid adverse weather, officials said.

The helicopter, operated by Trans Bharat Aviation Pvt Ltd with call sign VT-HCX, had taken off from Badrinath at about 1:14 pm. Contact was lost over the Joshimath valley and the tracking system stopped displaying its location.

Joint teams from police, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and the Army are conducting rescue and search operations at the inaccessible crash site in the mountainous terrain. A transport plan is being coordinated to move bodies from the crash site to the nearest road.

Two UCADA helicopters were deployed for aerial reconnaissance as part of an extensive search and rescue effort, with ground and aerial teams from the Army, ITBP, NDRF, SDRF, police, and district administration involved. The state government and district authorities are monitoring and coordinating the operation.
