A UPS plane crash last year claimed the life of Matthew Sweets, with 15 people killed in the incident. His family is speaking publicly about him for the first time nearly a year later.

Adam Bowman, a survivor who helped after the crash, carried Sweets through the wreckage and to a truck, assisting him toward medical care. Bowman described his effort and the moment he heard someone calling for help, which led to the evacuation.

The family details a Halloween evening at home before the tragedy, highlighting Sweets’ roles as a Cardinals fan, a night owl, and a caregiver to his partner Brooke Murray and their two children. They recall his return home to their children’s celebration of his arrival.

Sweets spent 40 hours in intensive care before passing away, with his family at his bedside in his final moments. Bowman's actions provided the family precious time with him, according to Murray.

Bowman, who also endured injuries from the crash, carries memories of Sweets and says he motivates himself to persevere when facing challenges. The family keeps mementos of Sweets, including tattoos of his heartbeat.
