Mumbais CSMIA Airport To Shut Both Runways For 6 Hours On November 19 For Post-Monsoon Maintenance; Flight
Mumbai's CSMIA will suspend operations on both runways for six hours, from 11 am to 5 pm on November 19, for annual post-monsoon maintenance. The work will include runway repairs, friction testing, lighting inspections, drainage clearance and renewal of runway markings.
Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) will pause operations on November 19 to carry out its annual post-monsoon runway maintenance. Both intersecting runways will remain non-operational for six hours, from 11 am to 5 pm, to perform essential structural upkeep and airside safety inspections.
The maintenance plan covers the entire airside footprint of CSMIA, which spans more than 1,033 acres. Specialist engineering teams will use heavy-duty machinery to inspect, repair, and recalibrate the primary runway 09/27 and the secondary runway 14/32.
Planned tasks include asphalt surface repairs, friction testing to address rubber deposits, micro-texture assessment, and patching micro-fissures to restore skid resistance and structural integrity. The work will also involve detailed checks of runway lighting and other electrical systems, as well as airside drainage maintenance and renewal of runway markings.
A formal NOTAM was published in advance to help domestic and international carriers adjust plans. Airlines, air cargo operators, and ground handling agencies have been advised to realign flight schedules and aircraft routing to minimize delays and passenger disruption.
MIAL stated the approach emphasizes safety, efficiency, and reliability, aiming to ensure a smooth experience for airlines and passengers while maintaining high safety standards. The maintenance follows the pre-mmonsoon maintenance conducted in May, which focused on water-entry risks and drainage systems.
