Trucks have been on the Naples Capodichino runway since last night, and all planes that were at the airport at midnight have left. The final departures with passengers for Milan and Barcelona occurred around 10:30 pm, with other arrivals by 11 pm also leaving empty to resume their routes from this morning.

Commercial flights are scheduled to resume on December 1, with ticket sales for airlines operating from Naples restarting from that day. The airport is expected to reopen for weather-permitting private and maintenance flights between November 22 and 23.

The works are led by ADR Engineering, part of the Aeroporti di Roma group, with an investment exceeding 30 million euros and about 500 workers across 250,000 square meters. The project includes rebuilding the runway structure with new materials and renewing lighting and illuminated signage systems.

During construction, operations at Salerno will absorb some traffic, with the Capodichino site managing the complex coordination. Exemptions have been granted for truck movements on the first four Sundays of November to support concrete pouring for the runway, while ENAC has modified access rules for Naples and Salerno airports.

Salerno will handle part of the air traffic and operate both its terminals simultaneously, including a general aviation terminal for private flights and several commercial routes. A dedicated bus service and enhanced train connections have been arranged to link Naples and Salerno, with a shared taxi option for certain routes between the two cities. ENAC and ENAV will conduct inspections and radio measurements as the project progresses.

When the work is completed, the runway orientation at Capodichino will shift from 06/24 to 05/23 to align with Salerno’s orientation. An ENAC commission and ENAV will verify the resumption of flight operations, including new lighting measurements, before services restart.
